How do I migrate to a new device?

Answer

The notes below will help in migrating ReportAway! standard edition data to a new device. This procedure assumes you are running ReportAway! R1.4 or greater on your old device. If not, upgrade to the latest available version on your old device prior to proceeding.

Please Note: These instructions cover migration to a new device. Generally it is recommended _not_ to upgrade your ReportAway! version at the same time as migrating. For example, if you are running ReportAway! R1.5 on your old device ensure this is what you are running on your new device.

Preparing for Migration

  1. Back up your old device using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Install ReportAway! on your new device by downloading from your original point of sale.
  3. You will need a new license key for your new device. If your point of sale does not supply it automatically, request it from Acire Systems Inc. by running the "Request Registration Key" menu item from the "Administration->License Administration" screen.
  4. Install the new license key as instructed by support.

Migrating Data to Your New Device

Pre-conditions:

Ensure ReportAway! is installed on your new device and you have installed your new license key. Make sure before running the procedure below that ReportAway! is _not_ launched.

1.       Connect your device to the Desktop Manager.

2.       From the Desktop Manager main screen select “Backup/Restore”

3.       From the Backup and Restore screen select “Advanced”.

4.       You should have a two panes. The right pane will show existing databases on your device.

5.       Just above the left pane select the “File” pull down and select the “Open” item.

6.       Browse to and select your back up file. If you get a warning about a “…cab” file ignore it.

7.       The left pane should show all databases in your backup file.

8.       Scroll down to, and select, all databases with the “ReportAway!” prefix.

9.       Select the “>>” transfer icon located between the two panes to transfer the ReportAway! data from the backup file to the device. Select “Yes” to proceed when prompted.
